ROSEMARY, Rosmarinus officinalis
Rosemary is an evergreen shrub, the bark is ash-colored and scaly, with leathery, thick, glossy, dark green leaves with white underneath. Its tiny pale blue flowers abound from December to spring, it can grow up to two meters in height.
Its name means "sea dew" because it grows naturally near the Mediterranean Sea. It has been used medicinally for several thousand years, and its leaves were traditionally burned to purify the air. It was used in Roman funeral rites, and that practice continued until the Middle Ages, when it was customary to put branches of rosemary in the coffin at funerals.
