  • The clove tree is perennial and grows to a height of between ten and twenty meters. The flower buds initially have a pale color that gradually changes to green, after which they begin to acquire a bright reddish color indicating that they are ready to be collected.

Cloves were among the most precious spices in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries, and they were worth more than their weight in gold. It continues to be used in Ayurvedic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, Western herbalism, and dentistry.
